Sshh.. Boss is coming…

He is coming towards me. I observed.

So I immediately closed the ‘www.sulekha.com of blog section’ and continued with my usual routine on my computer...

“What happened to the collection? Why no payment from that customer so far?”
Boss enquired.

“Sir, I am in touch with them. Today they have dispatched the cheque.. is what they say.” I replied.

My boss is a difficult man. I’d have to be very careful about the words I use.

Last time, there was delay of more than three weeks and I was blamed for not taking down the docket number when the customer claimed they had sent the cheque just to avoid my frequent reminders. Sometimes customers do take their time to make payments but generally pay them.
But I got a big ‘lecture’ from him for not being able to do a good follow up on collection. He informed me that I was useless..anyone could fool me.. I was a dud to the core.. fit for nothing.. etc etc (pl add all the worlds worst vocabulary in this list..)

So  I added this time,” I have also taken down the courier name and docket number.”

Then once again I remembered another incident..

So I added , “but again, sir , I don’t know if the docket number is correct one.. as during one of the earlier times, another customer had later on apologised for giving the wrong docket number after disbursing the correct one and thereby buying themselves more time. We would have to wait and see.”

I thought now I have given him a clear picture.. I wont be blamed this time for any delay. I have taken enough efforts to ensure prompt payment.. What is he going to say now..

My Boss asked “ Why are you informing me that you don’t know if the docket number is correct one”

“ Sir, remember,  during one of the collection, the customer bought more time for himself by informing us a wrong docket number and then paid us after a month!”
I replied feeling good , that I have been smart ..hey .. hey .. Let me see, if he tells me anything..

Boss told me “ Look .. Don’t always look at everything from a doubtful angle. Try to be optimistic all the time.. You are sick with pessimism!!”
